The Sidewalk Anthem
The Sidewalk Anthem began with a moment of quiet clarity. When Stuart wrote Matters of the Heart and they sang it together for the first time, something clicked - their voices blended with an emotional weight that felt instinctive, effortless, and unmistakably right. The Space Between followed soon after, confirming a natural creative chemistry.
Formed in 2007, the duo draws from the British singer‑songwriter tradition, the musical heritage of the American South - from Alabama warmth to Muscle Shoals soul - and the open, heartfelt character of alt‑country. Their songs live in a reflective, intimate space: warm, atmospheric, hopeful, and gently melancholic, offering listeners comfort, connection, and quiet healing.
Their writing process is intentionally raw. They hit record on a tape machine and let the moment shape the song, preserving the honesty and imperfections of the first spark.
A recent milestone saw them fulfil a long‑held dream: performing stateside at U.G. White Mercantile in Athens, Alabama. They’re now recording a new EP and lining up autumn gigs, continuing to evolve their intimate, transatlantic sound.
